You can't really prevent...but one way to slow down the damage done is by not allowing webmaster to send traffic without a referring url (exit console, etc) unless they get permission from you and are whitelisted.

That way if a spam attack DOES occur, you can redirect all non referring traffic to a page stating the situation. It will buy you some time...a good 2 weeks...rather than days.

If it goes beyond 2 weeks...your backbone will slowly start to demand that you shut off the domain.

This time of spam attack seems to be extremely rare. Like the kind Brad had lasted only a few days.....the one I'm a viction of has been lasting weeks...non stop.
