You are lucky. My buddy had his car stolen. They partially stripped it when they got spooked and fled. They got the wheels, the stereo, the nitrous, the amp, the box, they cut all of the wiring in the engine compartment, took the cruise control box, cold air intake, header and exhaust and almost got the engine out too. His hydraulic lines were cut and it rained in the car too i think and got everything wet.
Get this, he didn't have insurance. He paid his policy online a day before cancellation. He thought he was okay. His insurance company posts online payments two days after receipt making his payment a day late. Enough lateness to cancel the policy which he did. They sent him a letter which he didn't open.
Two weeks later his car is stolen and he calls to make the claim they tell him that he has no policy in effect and that it was cancelled. They said it posted a day late and there was nothing they could do. Told him he was S.O.L.
Sucks right? Well.....
He argued with them and they said that's their policy. He brought up the point that they accept the postmark in this case as the send date but he paid it, the day before ON THEIR website and THEY take two days to process it.
They said, "hmm, good point, but the fact is you have no insurance."
He sent this up the chain, the right person took a hold of his account and got him his money for it.
They aren't totalling the car, instead they are repairing it.
Since he's had this car, a 2000 Honda Civic Si Coupe, he's had it broken into 6 times and they've attempted theft 3 times with only 1 successful getaway.
Sucks.
