It'll have earned the place it achieves, imo. Great film, and a very worthy adaptation from the book, even if it did have to trim down some of the more colorful but non-plot-advancing bits.

I know there's a lot of webmasters on here who are Star Wars fanatics and don't want to hear it, but Star Wars ranks third for series popularity worldwide after Lord of the Rings and then Harry Potter. The numbers do not lie. LOTR and HP are just more cosmopolitan and appeal to broader ranges of people, and thus pull in bigger numbers worldwide than SW.
