When was WebcamCash founded? How did it come to be?

It was started in 1999 by Barry Fruitman. After leaving the mainstream computer programming world Barry realized the potential in live online video chat.

Who makes up the WebcamCash team?

The team comprises of Barry and Hazel ? they?re the owners. Gunner. Myself. We have a few designers here as well as a few programmers. We also have between 150 and 300 models, but basically a small staff.

In the office you?ve got Barry and Hazel, who are married. What?s it like working in a family office?

It was really interesting, because Barry and Hazel pulled me in the office and it was kind of gloomy. I thought, ?Oh shit, I?m in trouble.? They go: ?Well Derek, being married and also being business partners, we?re going to have relationship clashes and they?re probably going to escalate, but I just want you to be aware that it has no affect on you and/or the company or on our personal relationship.? Dealing with that is very interesting, on so many different levels. It?s something new for me, but it hasn?t caused any overflow into the rest of our work. It?s always been positive, it?s always been good. It?s inevitable when you have a family type atmosphere. Also, when you have that family feel, you?re closer and we share more.

Platinum Doug:
What?s Barry like to work with?

WebcamCash Derek:
Barry I initially met at a few trade shows. We would always end up at some of the social gatherings or parties and we always chatted. There?s a world of difference from actually meeting someone at a party when they?ve had a few beers in them, or you?re at a dinner in this amazing location, you don?t know how it?s going to be in a work environment. You don?t know if you?re going to walk into the office and the guy is going to power-trip on you or be a total asshole. The thing with Barry is that he?s one of the most receptive bosses I?ve had. I?ve never been to a company, spit out my ideas and actually have them implemented by the end of day. Barry is one of the greatest guys to work for.

Platinum Doug:
What do you think WebcamCash can do better than any other program?

WebcamCash Derek:
It?s the small things. We like to do it bit by bit. We?re here for the long run. We?re not here to make money over night.

Platinum Doug:
What will it take to stay ahead of the curve?

WebcamCash Derek:
New and innovative features for customers, excellent affiliate support, and effective advertising and promotion efforts. Some of the same things it's going to take for everyone to stay ahead of the pack.

Of course I wouldn't.

Why not? Is she cute?? You'd have to agree that web cams seem like the least-involved and safest way a model could get into the business, though, wouldn't you?

I'd agree.

Have you met any of the models? What are they like?

WebcamCash Derek:
Yes, and most of them are regular girls just doing a job. It's a lot like meeting models at an adult convention.

Platinum Doug:
I see you've been to a few of those yourself . . . what do you think of the conventions?

WebcamCash Derek:
I love them. It?s a great place to put names to faces, to meet new clients, talk about industry trends. We have a very strong presence at shows and there is good reason for that. Small or large, we hit 90% of them.

Platinum Doug:
Any good stories you can tell me about crazy parties you've been to or things you've done? You are thee Derek Smout, after all!

Well there was this one time...... Shit, can?t say that. He had a girlfriend at the time. Or this one time I stole........ Shit, can't say that. Okay, I was at this shoot and........... Damn, my girlfriend would snap. You know Doug, I used to party really hard, but I have really slowed down. I can?t really say anything without involving other parties. Plus, I was single and partied like a rock star. Times have changed for me. I still love to party but I tend to duck out a little early. I did get most of my biz done when I was drunk so that didn?t help at all. But I?m a really good drunk -- ask anyone! Okay, maybe not a good idea!

Platinum Doug:
What's coming down the pipe for Webcamcash that you can tell us about?

WebcamCash Derek:
Top-secret info. We've just finished some improvements in the video and audio, and we'll be adding new member features.

Platinum Doug:
Tell me about the first time promotion you have going on now - $170 on first sign-up?

WebcamCash Derek:
Once the surfer signs up, he?s offered different packages, from $15 for 15 minutes and going up. With some of the programs, you see them offering $100 a sale, $150 a sale . . . but that?s only if you reach a certain amount of sales between a two week period. So the webmaster sees that XXX program is offering $200 a sign-up. Well that?s only if you send between 1000 and 2000 sales between a two-week period. So it?s really kind of a farce, because nobody can do that. So we wanted to come out with a program that really allows a webmaster to earn $170 per signup. Is that too far fetched? It?s not as far fetched as sending 3000 sales during a two-week period. The average surfer is going to spend $50 to $70 their first going out, which isn?t bad. It?s a new payout option that hasn?t been done before.

Platinum Doug:
So it applies to the first sale of every new surfer that joins your program, right?

WebcamCash Derek:
That?s correct.

Platinum Doug:
What is the most overlooked feature of the program?

WebcamCash Derek:
Probably our dynamic-link banners, which are banners that actually have a live girl in the banner itself. When you click on the banner, it actually takes you immediately to her chat room.

Platinum Doug:
How have you found the results of actually having the content in the banners that the surfer will see on the site when they click?

WebcamCash Derek:
The click-through ratios are much better than a static banner content relevancy is the name of the game. How much more targeted can a banner get?

Platinum Doug:
If you?ve made enough money in ten years to retire, what do you think you would do?

WebcamCash Derek:
Ideally my goal and my dream has always been in music -- to do something with my drumming. I?d run a drum school and teach kids drums. If I made my million dollars over-night, that?s where I see myself ? really following my passion for music. I actually have my electronic drum set in the office where when you?re having a break, you can go bash away. It?s very therapeutic for me and I draw a lot of my ideas from that.

What do you like about the adult entertainment industry?

WebcamCash Derek:
Some of my best friends are in the adult industry. What I love about it is that I get to cover so many things that I do in life. I have a mad passion for computers. I probably looked at more adult material before I started in this industry ? I look at it less now that I?m surrounded by it. I also love the ability that I can make the money working in an office environment, working with computers, traveling, meeting these wonderful people and I really feel that what I?m doing in the adult industry is cutting-edge and very easily transferred to the mainstream. There?s so many aspects of this industry, too. From programming to the content ? meeting models. It?s so diverse, there?s so much to see, there?s so much to do, there?s so much to learn. Every day is an adventure. It?s just a joy for me at this point in my life.
