I can see it for kids to keep them quiet for long drives but on the other hand for the same money you can get a really nice portable dvd player.

Yep, I got a couple portable DVD players for my daughters for Christmas and two mp3 players but I didn't see the point in the video iPods.

i bought one, downloaded entire season of LOST. Now i am addicted. Its great if your're lying in bed because its not a huge strain on the eyes with the television so far away from the bed for me....

Got one about 2 weeks ago, and it took about a day to get the right settings for the IPod to be happy with videos, it was all in the encoding...

Yeah I have put full movies on my 60GB black ipod ...

You have to convert them to H.264 format or Quicktime Pro's QMP4. Only these two formats are compatible with the ipod.

Converting is gonna take a while, so your best to set it to convert when you go to bed.I found converting the video format is slightly quicker using QT Pro ($30) than with Videora free iPod video converter. After all - it was made for the job!

Once you have converted the video, transferring it to your iPod is a bit of a patience required task too, but not that bad - about 15 mins for most 90 min movies.

If you like the portability and style, then the 5G iPod is the way to go all the way ... I love mine, but if you are not a patient person, you may want to drop $150 on a decent portable DVD player.

I learned by trial and error that forking out the $30 for QT Pro bypasses all the headaches ... one click conversions to 320x240 QMP4
