You have to understand that the U.S. of today was alot different from the U.S. of back then. There was really no "suburbs" per se. Everything was seperated...restaurants, schools etc. Communities within the city were seperated by color.......heavily populated black areas and white areas.

At that time there were no blacks in position of power. "Good Jobs" that people made "real money" with were hardly ever given to black people. White people had all the money. They are the one who drove the economy. The law of seperate but equal regulated schools and public faciilities. When seperate but equal was struck down....white people (Money) all moved OUTWARD away from the INNER city....taking the money, businesses and school funds with them. Black people did not have the money (that comes from good jobs) to do this. therefore they remained in the INNER city. Whats an economy with no money? Whats a city with little to no economy...a Ghetto.

OH and the gangster rap...women, gold chains, money.....all appealing things to a disenfranchised society. Ever hear Rock music that just makes you want to drive faster and faster? Kind of the same thing...
