joe, let me clarify one thing...when i use the term immigrant i am referring to a person whose intentiion is to become a citizen of the nation he has immigrated to.Otherwise I would have used the word REFUGEE. IMy family were refugees when we landed in Australia. I dont think my parents had any intentions of trying to become australian citizens, thats why we were deported..
I may be incorrect on this but i do not think australia allows immigration into it's country unless the individual intends on becomeing a citizen. I know for sure that you can immigrate to the u.s. and you never have to become a citizen. A very large number of immigrants in the u.s. never become citizens.

i wasnt aware that australia offered dual citizenship..Part of the oath that one takes in the u.s. is to DENOUNCE your allegance to your homeland. That can be very difficult to do. I had tears in my eyes when I did it, but hten i realized that if I ever went back there again i would surely be impriosoned or worse.Cambodia does not want me back. In the late 70's and early 80's many cambodian, laotian and vietnamese refugees returned to their homelands. And many of their family members who remained wherever it was that they were never heard from them again.Comment

The constitution is not the law that the people have to follo. It is the law that the government has to follow. If the government tries to pass a law that is in violation of the constitution then what is known as the checks and balances of our system of government are in place to repeal that law as "unconstitutional"
I was merely stating that there is no other system of governance in the world that gives the authority to the people over the government. Yes, there are other forms of democracy in the world, but htey are not the same as the u.s. As a matter of fact, the u.s. system of government is actually a REPUBLICAN form of government. That is, we are a group of united, yet individual states. Any powers not granted to the federal government in the constitution are left for the states to decide indvidually. Didn't read any of the thread except for the first question. I am aware that a bunch of debates must have started.
I'll start by saying that I did not vote for Bush. I don't agree with most of what he is doing. Certainly, the administration does not represent an overwhelming majority.
However, there are some things that I was proud of for this country. More people came out to vote. The large portion of new voters were young, first time, and motivated to vote. They voted heavily in favor of Kerry. I appreciated seeing younger people actually register and vote. They didn't get their way, but I'm glad more of them actually showed up. For that matter, I've been proud of the protests and questions too. One way to look at it is like this... The younger generation seems more liberal in their voting tendency and on the increase in terms of actually voting. What they did this election is something to be proud of. What they will may be able to do in the future is hopeful on part.
If that group matures and grows and the population table holds it's current path... There won't be as inverted a population table as there is now in how many more older people there are than younger. Once this takes place, that group will simply have a increasing number against the older group as it thins through the years. Further, as the older population begins to pass on, many minorities and immigrants will take their places.
