        Hmmm... I'm going to have to look into Mexico more.

        We've been looking towards Panama - but the drawback there is it puts us a little farther away from the kid than we'd like to be. And I'm sure when she hits college she'll want the bank of Mom and Dad as accessible as possible.

        I had concerns about Mexico re: gringo kidnappings and the like. But that data may be old, and at the time I read it, it concerned Mexico City primarily.

                        Yes, I think Mexico is a lot safer than it used to be years back. I still would advise against going there looking for trouble, but if you behave yourself then no-one really has any reason to give you any trouble.

                        Us, we're a family with our youngest daughter just short of 16 and not much high-school left. We're not even 40 yet, so time to quit the busy world and kick it quietly. Not really too much into the tourist scene, more mellow local type and I speak enough Mexican to do OK.

                        Health care.. I'd think you would want to come back to US for anything very important so that's a consideration how far you're willing to travel to get there.

                            A 200/k (equivelant) house in Mexico would run you about 1.8 milion here.

                                    Wow - you're like our mirror image. Our daughter is 16, we're both under 40. We have been planning to get her through High School and then go someplace where we can relax a little more while we work - as well as stretching the almighty dollar a bit more.

                                    My wife's big 'must' is that we have to be within an hour of an ocean. She loves the ocean, and won't budge on that. So we've been checking out Panama, Costa Rica - maybe now Mexico.

                                        Exactly Cody, my wife feels the same. Guadalajara is a little farther than that, but not too far.

                                        Now schools: "The American School" costs about 5 grand to enroll and $700.00/month (not bad for private school) and it's supposed to be one of the most diverse in the world with Mexican, American, canadian and european (French, German, Italian etc) students.

                                        Friend went to high school there and has his own daughter enrolled and can't begin to say just how great he thinks it is.

                                        The school is gated also.

                                                    Unfortunately, school there isn't on the table. We have to stick around until our daughter graduates here. Mona and I both moved around a lot middle - high school, and we were pretty determined to give her a straight shot all the way from Middle School - graduation, which we've managed to do (and are almost done with!)
