Be that as it may, emotive appeals work and they have always been used to some extent. However, in the past in the US (except for the McCarthy era) their use has been restricted to the message and not the issue.
Now the Republicans have used emotive issues themselves to win an election: the exact same technique as put Hitler in power and is behind the rise of Islamic fundamentalism. It's a Pandora's box that will be very hard to close because it worked so effectively and as you point out, porn is an obvious next target.
The only consolation is that you must not win too easily, because then the issue goes away and ceases to work for you. Hopefully this means we will only be under a gradual assault.Comment
