This is not a good idea.

I would use it but until it's a better secure script forget it. Definitely has some nice features.

Like I said in our e-mail conversation, allow Apache to use wget is not dangerous. Using opensource scripts like phpbb is dangerous, because they often have exploits that allows scriptkiddies to use wget through apache. So as long as you stay away from scripts that often have exploits (mostly opensource scripts) you do not have much to worry about regarding wget.
By the way, comus uses wget as well, as well as many other scripts.
