Well, funny you should say that, cause I lived in NY For 2 years, and was in Paris for 6 months

New York has busier roads, which naturally leads to 'meaner traffic', yet when you drive on roads in New York that are comparable traffic wise to Montreal, you'll find that the Montrealers are much less friendly - they won't let anyone in in front of them, they'll honk if you don't gun it off the green, they'll inch halfway into the intersection waiting for the light to turn green, and they will never, ever signal to change lanes or turn...
If you're only going the speed limit, they'll tailgate you until they move... If they need to drop someone off downtown, they'll stop in the middle of the road to let them out... it's very selfish driving behaviour, and seemingly typical of a lot of the attitude you see here...
and Paris, well yeah, Paris is just ridiculous...
