I'm a lowly 3.5 - for those that don't know, that is the largest bracket for league players...each successive level the skill level goes up steeply.
I can play competitively against 4.0 players, although I mostly play doubles. I've won some club tournaments and some of my USTA league teams have done well, winning locals and districts. I have yet to be on a team that has made it to regionals, however my club has had several teams make it, and a few have even won National titles at various levels.
Tennis is a great sport for couples, because men and women can play together - a few years back my wife and I won a Mixed Doubles Grand Prix title for Northern California (it's based on cumulative points for an entire season, playing in several tournaments).
I'm sure there are some other good players in here, however if you ever want to hit, I make sure that I am always at a hotel with tennis courts when I travel to tradeshows, and I always bring my racquets.
