If I am not mistaken, some other board was doing that. I'm not sure if it is still around.
Maybe an interesting approach would be a NO SIG / NO ANNOUNCEMENT "free" area of GFY. Then there's a paid area where people are allowed to fly sigs and post announcements. Just thinking out loud.
