N00b question regarding dual xeon servers

If you're upgrading to a motherboard with dual 64bit xeon cpu support, do you have to unstall two cpus, or will it run with just a single one?

    Thanks.

1 should be fine to begin with.

mine seems to be working just fine with 1. why buy a dual board and only 1 cpu though?

I intend to upgrade again later, as in add the extra cpu, and throw in a bunch of extra ram. There just won't be enough load on it yet to justify spending the extra money on it.
