Harper is too stuck up and Layton is a leftist incompetent. So really what are the options?
If I had to take a bet, I would say that Martin will win his next elections and for the exception of Quebec, the electoral map will much remain the same.
Where the Liberals are playing with fire is in Quebec, they made very little gain in the last election and the Gomery report is doing nothing but give ammunition to the separatist movement. Gilles Duceppe is quite possibly the most conniving politician Quebec has seen since Lucien Bouchard. His platform during the last election was "we're not talking about the separation". Hardly believable coming from a party who's sole existence is the separation of Quebec.

Chretien has not said his last word. Yes, he's guilty as sin but himself and his army of lawyers will do a stellar job of putting the blame on someone else.
