I hate shopping, what is the bestvalue for the dollar going right now?
Looking at 80 - 160 gig hdd, DVD R/W, 1 gig ram, 19 (or 17) monitor, all the basics
Check some of the factory refurbs from Tiger Direct. I just got a Gateway P4 3.0GHz, 200GB, 512MB, dual DVD (1 reg 1 R/W), WinXP Home, for $506 delivered. Mine was the 507GR, very similar to this one...

no monitor . . . what is the deal with getting service on a Gateway these days? Take it to a shop?
They aren't doing any proprietary design on these systems, so any local shop could work on it after warranty. Monitor not included, but they can be found pretty cheap too.

I just found out about IBuyPower.com. They are actually gaming computers though, but what great features for such a cheap price. I have my eyes on that Special-C. This computer I have here is 3+ years old, and when I have enough money saved that is what I'm going to buy. Only problem is that they don't give you XP with it. I'll have to find someone who can lend me their copy.
clones. Find a local shop to build one for you if you don't have time ot build one yourself. You'll thank yourself when you don't have to deal with shipping the dell or tigerpc away every 4 months

I stopped by a shop yesterday and requested they submit me a bid.
I custom build computers, which comes out cheaper than any retail computer plus you get better equipment. Never had a complaint yet, everyone loves em.
