Red Sox HELMETS - WHY SO DIRTY?!

Anyone else notice tha the Red Sox helmets look like they haven't been cleaned in years.

Anyone know the story behind this?

Many players believe its bad luck to clean or get a new batting helmet.

Vlad Guerrero on the Angels has a helmet like that too.

I've seen players with worse helmets. Remember Ozzie Guillen?

if you do a google news search for "pine tar red sox" you'll get a few results.

I think the whole deal is because the MLB has been on players cases about uniform related things, and this is a childish way to to tell the MLB officials to 'shove it'.

Seems like a whole silly thing to me

check out trot nixon. He actually belives it is bad luck to not have his hat touching his body at any time during the game. He also will not wash it or get a new one. So when he is up to bat he folds that dirty nasty thing up and has it in his back pocket.
