Hey I'm from New Zealand. You're coming at a good time season wise it's starting to get warmer. Hamilton is pretty much the only decent sized city that isn't on the coast. It's fairly rural, I don't know that there's a lot to do there. If I were you I might head over to Rotorua one weekend, or if you have a little more time go to some of the coastal towns in the coromandel, none of that should be more than a 3 hour drive.Originally posted by mastamindz
If you have even more spare time I'd probably head up north to the Bay of Islands it's beautiful this time of year but from Hamilton you're probably looking at a 6 hour drive or so.
Most of the Lord of the Rings type scenery stuff is down the South Island. Get a plane to Queenstown and check it out for as many days as you can.

yeah New Zealand is a pretty liberal place. Cost of living is fairly reasonable compared to US, Europe. It's a great place if you like the outdoors and a more chilled pace of life.

actually I think there was a proviso in the last budget that immigrants can get overseas income tax free for five years. So if anyone was really thinking about immigrating somewhere I'd check that out for sure.Comment
