trials vs non-trials

I am building a small site for someone and they had an interesting question.

Should they have trials or should they just have regular monthly signups

Im curious to hear your suggestions.

Both have there advantages:

No trial then you weed out the crap members adn get a good sense of people who will recur evry month/

With a trial you will get more signups and more people who want to test it out before they go full membership

Why dont you you a no trial and on exit if theydont buy then offer the trial 2.99 deal kinda like erasercash does

that was my original answer but they then asked the question about paying affiliates $35 bucks per signup. If the conversions for trials to full memberships are around 30% on a $4.99 trial, how can they make money paying $35 signup to their affiliates.

This one really stumped me.

and they can still make money on that? if the trial is say $5 and they get 100 of them, that is $500 they bring in. Now they had to pay out $35 x 100 = $3500 to the webmasters...now lets say that they convert at 40% meaning 40 percent of the people pay the monthly fee of $50...thats $2000...now lets say the retention is 40%...so 16 stay for a month, thats another $900. the next month 40% retention so there is another 6 times $50 for $300...then 2 for $100...if my calculations are right thats a toal of $3550 a profit of $50 at a 40% retention...this is not to mention fees to the credit card companines, so it would have ended up in a loss...and I missing something? This is at $50 now they wanted to do their site at $34.95 monthly, they wont make money. Please reply, this is my outlook on their idea....
I think they should skip trials by looking at these numbers.

also don't forget to produce your own traffic ;) hire a couple college kids to build galleries, free sites and AVS sites all day for $7-8 per hour...............

or do what we're doing...run it as a partnership program for a couple months and get a nice, steady recurring member database with your own traffic, then roll out the per signup...you should also take into consderation that now with per signup, you'll have to deal with russian carding scumfucks and cheaters doing shit like "signup for a trial, find word 3 on paragraph 6 of page 2 in the memberrs area, put it here and get access to picture of me fucking my sister, then cancel your membership there" and cheating you can't imagine (though not as bad as with per click programs)....or have $30-40K in the bank to absorb losses the first few months...we're releasing a program for a certain house of ill repute and basically told them with per signup, stick $100K in the bank and don't expect profits for the first few months....

also, check out the banned countries list from most major sponsors and make that your banned countries list....

revolutionize the teen niche? better do a subniche of teens...like we're doing with AlternativeGirls....it's a teen site, but the teens are tattooed, pierced, etc. they're bad girl teens...teens that'll fuck you then kick your ass and take your wallet...... ;)

if they're going for teen, make sure they do something to spark interest instead of the same tired generic overproduced tours........

I charge $19.95 and no trial. I make more money than with the trial and have members that have been around for 6 months ..

I think trials are great for sites that charge $ 30 .
