So I'm trying to buy a domain variation

I noticed someone registered a variant of a domain that I own, it's a three word domain with a plural form (xxxxxxxxphotoS.com vs my xxxxxxxxphoto.com) and according to overture it's now getting a little bit of type ins every month, no doubt misguided bookmarkers of my own site. Keep in mind my own more popular domain had 0 type ins when I bought it, so the traffic is only from what I've developed, not natural type ins.

Anyhow I decided to contact the owner of this domain to purchase it; yeah it was stupid of me not to just register this variant at the same time I bought the real one, however I didn't plan on developing it into a TGP like I did either. So the owner emails me and tells me he's getting about 70 type ins per day on the domain, and I should make him an offer.

I explained what's going on with the traffic source (being my tgp traffic) and sent him back an offer of $50, which seems reasonable for 70 misguided TGP bookmarkers per day. I was willing to negotiate up a little and assumed that there would be some haggling.

This is what I got in reply:
"Sorry, xxxxxxxxphotos.com is worth more in the $10,000 range."

Domain guys, do you think this dude actually believes this shit or is he pulling my leg? That traffic probably wouldn't generate more than $150/year at most considering it's just TGP traffic. And actually that's a rather generous amount.

That's what I was afraid of. No chance to negotiate a fair price out of it.

Oh well, lesson learned, shoulda bought up the more obvious domain variations.

Or maybe I should start another tgp & sell off a crap domain variant getting a few mistaken type-ins for ludicrous sums of money

since the loose definition of the term is confusing you, "previous visitor trying to return to my site"

they don't all 'add to favorites', many people simply remember the url, incorrectly in this instance
