I would think there is a reason retail shops across the globe 'dress up' for the holidays. Even Google dresses up for the holidays. Something small might just be different enough for your surfers to see that things get updated, or that your sites are a bit different.

I'm surprised more Members areas don't have things as customizable as their personalized area. Members being able to put what they want where they want any time they want would be pretty slick.
