The nail in Kerry's presidential chances coffin

    http://www.thenation.com/doc.mhtml?i...6&c=1&s=dugger
About 61 million of the votes in November, more than half the total, will be counted in the computers of one company, the privately held Election Systems and Software (ES&S) of Omaha, Nebraska. Altogether, nearly 100 million votes will be counted in computers provided and programmed by ES&S and three other private corporations: British-owned Sequoia Voting Systems of Oakland, California, whose touch-screen voting equipment was rejected as insecure against fraud by New York City in the 1990s; the Republican-identified company Diebold Election Systems of McKinney, Texas, whose machines malfunctioned this year in a California election; and Hart InterCivic of Austin, one of whose principal investors is Tom Hicks, who helped make George W. Bush a millionaire.
In Alabama two years ago, during a controversy over an election for governor conducted mostly on op-scan machines, Attorney General Bill Pryor, backing up the sheriff in one questioned county, ruled officially that under state law anyone recounting the ballots would be subject to arrest. This year President Bush, circumventing Senate hearings, elevated Pryor to the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals in a recess appointment.
Mercuri wrote in her dissertation on vote-counting in 2001 that "security flaws (such as Trojan horse attacks)...are possible in all of the computer-based voting systems" and that providing thorough examinations of source code and other circuits for DREs that vary from municipality to municipality "is a Herculean task--one that is likely not to be affordable, even if it were accomplishable."
One day Bev Harris, a literary publicist in Washington who was doing research for a book on vote-counting in computers, fed Google the right search words and the FTP site itself popped up. Knowing little about computers, she turned to David Allen, who was publishing her book, and he recognized the openly posted source codes and much other data concerning Diebold voting machines.

A small group of activists in Georgia worked with Harris. One of them, Roxanne Jekot, who runs a software consulting firm, analyzed "almost every line" of the Diebold source code and found many ways to change vote totals there and also in the Microsoft operating code. "The software is totally junk," she says. "They sold vaporware." Determined to get peer review of what she was finding, Jekot approached David Dill, the Stanford computer science professor.

Tons of interesting information about voting machines there. They also have documented how easy it is to change the vote total in the Diebold System.

Also, the head of Diebold has publicly said he would do whatever he could to get Bush re-elected.

This article breaks down a number of ?voting irregularities? that have happened recently. I think in areas where "Voters Outreach of America" did it's scam people should be allowed to vote if they simply bring ID and proof of residence on election day. I would think more people would be outraged that the RNC was paying those people to use that name but to only go for republican registrations, whether they destroyed Democrat registrations or not

I thought only convicted felons couldn't vote. Wouldn't being arrested for outstanding parking tickets be a misdemeanor? In addition, aren't there steps you can take as a convicted felon to get your right to vote back?

Read more than just newspaper articles about the Florida election. Over 50,000 had there voting rights taken away....some were people awaiting a trial and not convicted, some were relatives of convicts, and some that just matched some computer searches (according to the head of the Florida election, a republican who was also in charge of the Bush campaign in Florida, it was computer error).

Something interesting from the 2 link I posted
In June of this year, Florida Governor Jeb Bush and his political appointees used the guise of clearing felons off voter rolls AGAIN to hide an attempt to disenfranchise 48,000 traditionally Democratic voters. The list, which was disproportionately African-American, was rife with inaccuracies. Additionally, in a state with a heavily Republican Cuban population, a technical error caused the names of thousands of Hispanic felons to be excluded from the list. The U.S. Commission on Civil Rights has asked the Department of Justice to investigate.

It would be amusing if hackers changed the votes and Nader won the election.

Report: Jeb Bush Ignored Felon List Advice

                                October 17, 2004 8:15 a.m. EST

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Florida Gov. Jeb Bush ignored advice to throw out a flawed felon voter list before it went out to county election offices despite warnings from state officials, according to a published report Saturday.

In a May 4 e-mail obtained by the Sarasota Herald-Tribune, Florida Department of Law Enforcement computer expert Jeff Long told his boss that a Department of State computer expert had told him "that yesterday they recommended to the Gov that they 'pull the plug'" on the voter database.

The e-mail said state election officials "weren't comfortable with the felon matching program they've got," but added, "The Gov rejected their suggestion to pull the plug, so they're 'going live' with it this weekend."

Long, who was responsible for giving elections officials his department's felon database, confirmed the contents of the e-mail Friday to the Herald-Tribune. He said he didn't remember the specifics, but that Paul Craft, the Department of State's top computer expert, had told him about the meeting with Bush.

A software program matched data on felons with voter registration rolls to create the list of 48,000 names. Secretary of State Glenda Hood junked the database in July after acknowledging that 2,500 ex-felons on the list had had their voting rights restored.

Like I've said, if its 55/45 for Kerry, Bush will still win, one way or another. Pessmistic, but it seems all to viable.

                                            exactly..

                                            Amazing.

I hope some hacker really does hack it and make Nader win.

                                            Just to prove a point.
