Is our industry ripe for an attack?

Here is a list of things that concern me when in comes to our industry.

We have a insane amount of blatant copyright infrindgements going on by a vast number of the companies.
We have a constant supply of lotteries and contests that ignore all state contest rule requirements.
Just about nobody goes through the trouble of validating who is signing up as an affiliate, from age to real social security number.
Aside from a few weak organizations, and thanks a lot to assorted squables and industry politics we have no representation or organization what so ever.
At times it seems that we almost promote the idea of using assorted payment methods and the like to avoid taxation.
Many seem to think they are either untouchable or that nobody will ever really come after them and most do not remember history at all.
Many of our programs and the way we do business could very easily be tied up in a RICO style case in the event that something does happen, just due to our normal business models.
We do very little to self police ourselves.
Many keep trying to push boundries even further than what many of even us consider out there, and to top it off they often publicly flaunt it and taunt certain organizations and groups.

And those are just a few of my concerns. There are of course many more, and no this is not some the sky is falling type of post. Just some topics that I wanted to address.

The question was in the topic. Though we can have a discussion without me asking 20 questions.

dude you have no idea what is going on, and affil programs just dont give a fuck.

            they just dont care.

content thiefs. affil programs do nothing to take down or report to host.

billing companies are being defrauded daily 10,000$'s of dollars. on epass

example i have tried to reach someone plenty of times regarding epass. no response.

people are ripping off affils signing up for their own signups.

            nothing is being done.

its like no one cares. unless you actually show up at their door.

I do have a good idea what is going on, but I do agree it seems nobody really cares.
Oh and the copyright stuff I mentioned was not us stealing from each other but us stealing from large mainstream companies.

I don't think it's a lack of interest. It's a lack of "response" because what you say is true. Kind of like sponsors "don't shave" (see sig). Can anyone refute any of After Shock Media's questions above intelligbly?

That could be it I suppose.
Though in all honesty I really am starting to think as long as people see some coinage they do not care.

Very good points. But I think the government will just continue to try and pick people/organizations off one by one. They like things hush hush because if the media really started writing about how many mainstream & yes even jesus freak type organizations have their hands in the cookie jar there would be soccer mom & ignorant shareholder riots all over the place. Let's talk about bandwidth providers for one.

There would be no internet without porn...

It's always under attack I can not recall a day when Adult Entertainment was not under attack from not only the GOV but our own.

Well with repubs in office and a soon-to-be even more conservative supreme court, I'd say our chances of getting "attacked" are more than RIPE....inevitable. We just have to hope for the best.

Our economy needs porn and the government knows it. Porn can move off shore in a heart beat and collapse fundemental parts of the economy.

So no it's not under attack in my 2 cents.

The adult industry will never go away ...

What's happening is that the industry is consolidating with most of those remaining being the toughest; not overly afraid of regulation, etc - if anything, some of the big players remaining actually prefer more of it (ie. some of them endorse 2257, .xxx, etc) ... which further discourages the average joe schmoe from getting / staying in the business.

It's a game ... takes skill, guts / not being afraid of BS, building relationships, and some luck certainly never hurts.

The late 90s, early 00s were an abberration in which anyone could run an adult business ... the hard reality is now coming back that adult is a risky business and is not suited for most people who are risk averse.

I personally think Visa/MC poses the largest short-term risk.
Regulation and new laws pose the largest long-term risk.

So no it's not under attack in my 2 cents.
Our economy also needs pharmaceuticals yet that does not seem to stop the assortment of class action trial lawyers who are more than happy to bankrupt a company that alone makes as much as this industry does.

And yes I skipped over such issues as 2257, which in my mind is still just a to harsh labeling law that needs the kinks worked out. Many industries has strict labeling requirements, that and since we also deal in the video side we have been putting up with it for years already so publishing our info is no big deal. Though it is indeed a threat since so many do take it so lightly.

Visa and Mastercard also are fairly big threats, though ones we entirely brought upon ourselves in my mind. They had no real issues dealing with us at first until we started fucking their clients over, so in a way this is just one of many beds we made that we must sleep in.

Also as fris pointed out insider fraud is also huge, and even everyday scams are the norm where people are taken for money all of the time. I am afraid one day this is going to happen to the wrong person.
