And it's the last time I'll have hopes.. Violator was their best album. After that, it's all going downhill.. I'll never forget 1990 and Violator.. But now I have to admit that it's never going to be back..

Just when you thought Depeche Mode couldn't get any worse after "Exciter", they have surprisingly hit rock botton with "Playing The Angel".

Never before has a DM album sounded as boring and uninspired as this one. For the most part, Dave Gahan drones instead of sings, as if he's falling asleep. Well the result was that I was put to sleep. It's frustrating to hear a singer with perhaps the most beautiful and poetic voice in all of pop music not put it to good use.

Gone are the lyricism, passion, catchy hooks and melodies, and haunting soundscapes that made "Violator" an instant classic.

The problem with Depeche Mode is that they don't make music anymore. They just make noise, with the exception of "Precious",
the only emotionally compelling song on the new album. They just showed up in the studio to collect a check. Bored, world weary, and artistically bankrupt, they no longer have the desire to make music for the masses.

A huge disappointment and Depeche Mode's worst album. Avoid it! This is from an amazon review and I totally agree.
