Do you chase domain transfer specials?

If you have a large portfolio of domains at a registrar, do you just keep renewing them there for whatever rate you qualify for, or do you transfer them to another reputable registrar that happens to have a domain transfer special which is cheaper. For a few domains, it is probably not worth the savings/hassle but when you got 100s or 1000s, the difference between $5.99 - $6.99 transfer specials and ones normal renewal rate can add up.

I own a large number of domains, currently around 18,500 --but I don't chase specials.

    I'll tell you why:

    1. It is alot of work to move a large number domains between registrars.
    2. The savings are minimal.
    3. Sometimes there are restrictions or limitations to the offers. Read carefully!
    4. Security and customer service are also very important considerations, and often they are lacking at the companies that make the ostensibly attractive offers.

    Check out www.moniker.com

    They are my favorite registrar.

      1. I agree, having to manually confirm 100s or 1000s of transfer requests is alot of work. Should be a way to automate it. Not to mention reconfiguring DNS if the names don't all go to the same IP.

      2. Looks like Monikers best renewal rate is $8.49 so a $5.99-$6.99 transfer special would save one between 17% - 29% if my math is correct. I would not consider that to be minimal but you probably get a better rate than that with 18,500 domains.

      3. Yeah definetely got to read the fine print although some of the $6.99 offers are not even specials as they are the standard bulk transfer rates subject to the standard terms.

      4. Service and security are perhaps the most important. Do you know if Moniker takes any security measures that are not taken at other registrars?
