For Israelis, Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement) is also a reminder of the 1973 Yom Kippur War: 3,000 died in a surprise simultaneous attack by Syria and Egypt. As well as not driving, about three-quarters of Israelis will fast today.
However, it is a day to which the kids look forward. Because the roads are vehicle free, even the youngest children are allowed to ride their bicycles wherever they like
