Next. Would you like to see F911 on the TV? If it was aired, would that be any less illegal? or is it simply more acceptable in your eyes because the film promotes your politics?
I'd like F911 on the air simply because I haven't seen it. Personally, I don't care if the Kerry movie is aired or not but as far as I can tell it would be illegal. They are wanting to release it as "news" to get around the law but could you imagine what would be said if F911 was called "news"? A little more on it anyhow...

"Cable, however, doesn't have the reach of broadcast stations like Sinclair's, nor is it subject to the same federal regulations. Still, although broadcast stations are required to provide equal time to major candidates in an election campaign, the Sinclair move may not run afoul of those provisions if Kerry or a representative is offered time to respond. Moreover, several sources said Sinclair had told them it planned to classify the program as news, where the rules don't apply.

Calling it news, however, poses its own problems, said Keith Woods, dean of the faculty at the Poynter Institute, a journalism school in St. Petersburg, Fla., that teaches professional ethics. "To air a documentary intended to provide a one-sided view of Kerry's record and call it news ? it's like calling Michael Moore's movie news," he said, adding that the closer to an election that a controversial news report is aired, the "higher the bar has to go" in terms of fairness."

"I try to make a habit of bouncing my eyes up to the face of a beautiful woman, and often repeat “not mine” in my head or even verbally. She’s not mine. God has her set aside. She’s not mine. She’s His little girl, and she needs me to fight for her by keeping my eyes where they should be."

Oh additionally, I didnt read through the entire document you sent me. I'm afraid I have a poor head for legalese. I believe if a candidate or party funds the ad or program, the law has clearly been broken. I seem to recall this from somewhere. If a third party like CBS can air damaging "news" in prime time. In what way is it more illegal for another 3rd party to produce a damaging program which is, arguably, more full of facts than many of the recent news stories. Is it the format of the program?

yes is would be illegal if they aried it. It is different to show a commercial for a movie, as the movie does not mention any names. read the whole section 11 link that he posted!!! Even though it is illegal, if they can show what they are going to show next week, then they should show f911

Ok. I see, so you feel the commercial presents both sides? You feel that "broadcast" refers to full length programs and nothing else? The movie does indeed mention bush. It also shows several congressmen that are up for re-election as well.

Again. Once the show airs, if you can show me that it is less factual than an average CNN broadcast I'll be happy to apologize

The movie mentions Bush but the comercial does not sorry I typed it wrong. You asked would showing a commercial for it be any different. IM not talkign about airing the movie. I meant the commercial. It woudl be illegal for them to show the movie not the commercial.

Personally, aside from F911, (which i saw, but , while it did raise some questions, didn't make any radical changes in my stand), the fact that such a powerful media conglomerate is essentially censoring the same sort of "controversial" programs that are in conflict with their beliefs, while pushing for programs that lean towards their personal beliefs, but are just as controversial is what is disturbing to me.
CBS refused to air MoveOn.org's "Child's Pay " commercial during the superbowl, claiming they were too controversial.
(Click here for the PDF press release) Seemed an excuse to me: Here are some of the reasons why.

Then, the Sinclair Broadcasting Group refused to allow eight ABC affiliates to air the Nightline show in which Ted Koppel was to read of the names of US military personnel killed in Iraq. Here is a link to their statement and response to a letter from Senator John McCain asking them to reconsider their order.

Were it just one instance of what amounts to censorship, I doubt there would be the type of outcry this is causing, but added atop one another, it is scary to think how little the average citizen is privvy to the truth when the media sits comfortably in a political force's camp.

Thanks. I see your point now. The rhetoric is really flying now. It appears that what the swiftboat vets should do is rewrite their entire show to beep out all mention of "john" or "kerry" and blur his face. The fact that EVERYONE watching knows that they are talking about him will make no difference! It will be just like the commercials for f911. What a great election law loophole. Thankyou Michael Moore

hmm you must be voting for bush! So its ok for sinclair to not show things that have to do with bush, but will show things that have to do wih kerry!

Fine sinclair can show that video as long as they show f911 after that.

Thats a good idea. if I were you I would register a domain thats just insulting enough to cause offence but not enough to get sued over it and host a copy of F911. Put your money where your mouth is. THEN, to really maximize the effect, pay affiliates $.50 per download of it to ensure that as many people as possible see it. I figure with the swift boat vets getting 4 million in donations from their site, I would figure you could make a LOT on donations to cover your bandwidth. THAT would sure be a lot more effective and should show sinclair who's boss ;)

Your hero, Michael Moore, was yapping his lips about putting his movie on TV for everyone to see just before the election. Remember how he was trying to play the national hero by letting the country see the movie for free? Now he is in negotiations to have it on pay per view the night before the election and you can watch it for ONLY 9.95.

I guess it was all about money and not about getting a message out, huh? That is all Michael Moore has ever been about. Twist the truth and spread lies to make a buck.

Thats so illegal it doesnt even pop up as an option. Moore is in trouble at the moment for giving college kids GAG gifts in exchange for voting for kerry.

In essence follow the money in all cases. The media in this country was once owned by many different interests it is consolidating. CNN was once liberal, now it is part of Time Warner. NBC was once liberal now is ownerd by General Electric. Radio stations used to be locally owned now most are owned by Clear Channel. No one has more interest in Bush being relected than those who were rewarded by his new corporate tax cut that just made it out of the Senate today. Special interests know where their bread and butter comes from.

If M Moore puts out a movie that rakes in MILLIONS and distrobutes it through Sony (a company that sells at Walmart, which Moore claims to hate even though a substantial part of his income comes from it). If he is allowed to make an anti-bush film using sensational and questionable documentary techniques (its his job) then why cant the right do it? Is it that the right didnt decide to charge you $7 a pop for it? Is it that the right isnt putting it out on DVD for $18? That same media group BTW "ordered" its stations to air "Reagan" Was that an evil right wing tactic as well?

When CBS airs the Bush docs story using faked docs, did you post about how the left was trying to sabotage things? Have you written Sony pictures and asked them to release F911 to TV audiences 3 weeks after a DVD release? The fact of it is that Moore makes MONEY for a living. He didnt want to release the film on TV or through viral internet marketing because he wouldnt make MONEY. Why is it that its only when the RIGHT makes money that its evil, but when the left does it its ok?

I'm obviously leaning right. Again, you can attack me GFY style or you can answer my questions and possibly (honestly) get a Kerry vote from me. I'm always ready to learn. Also dont attack my spelling, I'm on a machine without a spell checker.
the main problem with them airing it in this fashion is that it violates the new election laws that were inacted from the mccain finegold (sp?) bill.

Basically what that bill said is that any TV station and or network can sell ad space to political parties/persons and air it. This is no different then selling a commercial space to any company selling a product. What they can't do is give them free time. By forcing the affiliates to air this show commercial free he is basically giving the bush campaign 2 free hours of TV time. You can argue that this is not a pro-bush film but instead it's a film about kerry but that would be up to a court to decide who's correct in that argument. If it is found that this film is anti-kerry and thus pro-bush this network, under the campaign finance laws, would have to supply kerry with the same amount of free time in a comparable timeslot.

in california they had a situation with arnold running for governor. They couldn't air any arnold movies on broadcast TV because it would be considered free advertsing and they would then have had to give the other 834 ( or however many there were ) candidates similar free time.

If it is ruled that this is not an anti-kerry film and doesn't help bush, then I think they can go ahead and show it. It will be interesting nevertheless. I won't be watching it, I don't watch TV ( except for football ) but I don't think it will do much harm to Kerry. F911 did nearly 120 million at the box office and is selling truckloards of DVD's and it didn't seem to do any massive damage to bush. I think anti-bush people were the main base for F911 just like anti-kerry people will be tunning in to see this movie.

OK the fact is that they are actually airing it against FEC regulations. Also by them posting it, they are not making any money off of it, they are posting it at the wrong time. Sinclair also is against anything anti bush! They wont show things that bash bush but they will show things that bash kerry. It is unprofessional.

If I'm "Stealing" from a liberal here where is my gain? I would venture that 80% of the people on the board have never read the books and dont make the connection.

I agree. I think there may be a few people who are still undecided that will be swayed by this show ( maybe, it's hard to say because nobody has yet seen the show ) just like a few undecided voters were probably swayed by F911. I know who I'm voting for and I made up my mind sperate from the propaganda. I saw F911 and thought it was funny in parts, insiteful in parts and probably not very accurate in other parts but it didn't sway me one way or the other. It is possible that this anit-kerry show will actually have the opposite effect and just end up pissing people off. If one thing is certian it is that some voters will vote for or against candidates for the dumbest and strangest reseaons. I remeber reading that 5% of women voted for Clinton just because they thought he was sexy. That amazes me.
