Can you still be a CONSERVATIVE but still think Religion and Politics don't mix?

Much of the old time conservatives like Ayn Rand definitely were of this breed. Unfortunately, conservatism has been hijacked by the Religious Right (at least in the USA). What are your thoughts on this?

I love the capitalization on REASON. Do you read the magazine of the same name?

What do you think would happen to the USA if a Libertarian controlled the senate and executive branch, and put into action all of their ideas? America would collapse.

As bad as it seems, religion is good for Conservatism. Without it you get things like Caste systems (inability for upward social mobility for the underclass) or Nazi Germany (no tolerance or compassion for certain individuals whether it be based on race, gender, or mental dysfunction). Religion provides a moral compass for Conservatism.

I totally think so; hell I'm living proof. I'm a conservative but I'm completely against Bush's stance on church and state.
