Probably more so for the US than other countries simply because the US has developed into a consumer nation with a very weak manufacting base or service industry that can be exported.
Example is wheat and arms trading. At last look these were the only two elements of the US economy that actually had a surplus benefit to the country. All other industry were, one way or other, just consuming either parts, services, plant or whatever from other nations to a level more than their capability to export finished product or plant.
When it reaches a point of now exporting labor for the sake of a cheap price - it's probably the ultimate in cheapo consumerism.
At some point there is a bill to pay for this and a high one for the whole nation in that it's simply not sustainable to spend more than can be earned and constantly (especially lately) live off the "national credit card".
The US is not alone on this - it's a problem with other nations as well, but perhaps not to the same degree.
