well the guy was attempting suicide so i dont think he cares. Infact i think they helped him a little.
But i will tell you the main reason why you DONT become an organ donor.
I had a few friends in med school , and the organ donor bodies are the ones the med students get to test out .
He used to tll me disgusting stories of pranks they played.
If you really want to do something nice. Leave a handwritten signed letter in your wallet , allowing them to harvest your organs within 24 hours , and after that your body is to be cremated , or whatever you wnt.

Like, example.
A rich guy comes in with loads of money to spend , his liver is failing and he will soon die. Liver transplants cost $ XXX,XXX.
Joe-Crackhead comes in with an overdose, no money no insurance no job.
If the doctor saves him, he will most likely be back again and again making the doctor no cash whatsoever and eventually will ruin his liver to the point its not even usable if he dies.
If the doc lets him die, he not only saves himself and the hospital money because the guy wont come back every week overdosing. He will also make money from the trasplant to the rich guy , and not only that he will be able to RE-BILL the rich texan forever on the new liver.
If the texan ever tries to CHARGEBACK his liver transplant the doctor can make even more money..

I'm an organ donor and am willing to take the chance that my body isn't used exactly how I would have wanted it to be. I believe abuse is a rarity and if you can help sustain another human or make their existance better....why the hell not. You aren't exactly going to use the stuff anyways.Comment

i actually saw this one recently i was suprised t how much of the bodies they will show on t.v.
It was some crime lab teaching forensic analysis (sp?) and they got organ donor bodies. ( perfectly healthy looking ones ) and set them on fire or let them decompose on this 5 acre wooded are to see what happens to a body. Even more disturbing was the fact they were showing these bodies on t.v. ( very graphic images too , i.e. genitals )

The tissue match information is fed into a database and the recipient is found based on criteria like quality of match, length on list, current health etc.
It is then transported to this match, there are international registers so sometimes the organ would go out of the country.
Also the Doc who deals with the crackhead off the street will never be a transplant surgeon
