Human culture thrives on togetherness and commonality, even if that commonality comes from extreme individuality such as at the Burning Man festival. I think that some of it's precepts as I understand them are far more healthy than Western religions which require one to abide by the rules that may or may not make sense.
It may be unfair to call Burning Man a religion but it surely is a spiritual event for those who attend. I will have to check it out sometime, just for the experience.

i think this is one of the most intelligently put posts i've seen about burning man from someone who's yet to attend, ever. thank you for your understanding! i'm sure there are those who call burning man their religion, i definitely liken it to the closest i come to having a religion (in that it follows all the aspects that i would like to incorporate into my spiritual lifestyle, were i to collectively call all of those things "religion"). i hope you make it out some day, i'll see you on the Playa!
