I have a network of deluxepass sites, I wanted to get my feet wet with this kind of paysite management before I invested big bucks into a paysite operation.
For me traffic is King, I have all the content I need and can deliver it. I need TRAFFIC. This also applies to people like Quiet and Lightspeed.
Fro a TGP site owner thinking of opening a paysite Content is King, he has his traffic now he needs to show them something. For both of us delivery is important.
But for a webmaster (I use this as an example) who has been driving traffic for a few years and has his own content, Delivery is King. He may be use to showing one page he now has to show a site.
Some will tell you one is ALWAYS King and use as an example, if you had great A and no B, you would not make a sign up. Well that is true, so I use A & B.
Or if you have great A and crap C you will still make money, true but how much more will you make by having great A, B & C?
Not everyone who is great at generating traffic is great an creating and maintaining paysites. You have to focus on your strengths. If you're a traffic pro but have no experience running paysites, you're probably better off using good sponsors and concentrating your time on generating more traffic.
- our best traffic goes to our own sites and the prepaid advertisers
- after that it goes to the affiliate type programs
- then whats left over, we sell off to the brokers, who resell it to the newbie webmasters ;)
I have a LL which takes around 10K (+/- 1000) visits per day.
I have started selling spots to people as to be frank they can make better pages then me - by this they have sussed the way of the web. So for me its better to sell the space I would otherwise have a sponsor link.
Most of my income is generated from payment processing business I place with partners and banks. I only started a LL to learn how adult WM's and programes work etc and never once exspected to auctually sell something.
Markhan is right is about focusing on what you can do, how many of us have spent 2/3 days trying to do something which a guy on this board could have done in an hour for $100.
What I would like in the long term is a paysite though from speaking with 100's of WM over the years many say its a lot of work for the return and indeed many have just sold off their paysites and moved over to products.
My focus going forward is going to be selling space on my hub and finding unhappy people who wish to ditch their processor.
Great points have already been made so far, but I would add that some don't want the hassle of maintaining a paysite. Much easier to take the $35 sale & not worry about shooting or contracting exclusive content, updates, tech support for members etc.

Who says the site has to be 100% his links?
sure its not hard but he might only be able to make a certain amount building his own pages whereas he could sell those spots for more to others who can convert better for whatever reason.
