    John Kerry said tonight that Bin Laden was surrounded

    ...at Tora Bora and he was allowed to escape because we did not use our forces to go after him but used Afghan war lords.

    When General Tommy Franks was asked about this he basically stated that if Bin Laden was ever surrounded any where it was news to him. He said Tora Bora was one of many dots on a map of where Taliban/al Qaeda fighters were suspected to be. He said that there were reports of Bin Laden being at a number of these dots. He said the fact is that they never knew where Bin Laden was and that they don't know now...but he personally believes that he is no longer in Afghanistan.

                          Considering the US used the "warlords" to fight a "war by proxy" all the way to Kabul - why not let them fight at Tora Bora.

                          BTW... This was the "rag tag" War Lords we are talking about.

                          These "rag tag" War Lords were the same people who evicted the Russians and plenty prior invaders. It is too silly to call em "rag tag" - they were born into fighting and frankly, no soldier of *any* country is remotely within their league.

                                  I dont think it was his mistake... if I recall, it was satallite photos they got the information from. If he was conducting operations on the ground, I highly doubt he called up pakistan and asked them to send their guys in.

                                      Kerry said a lot of false things, Bush only had time to respond to a few of them and say what he wanted to say.... As we all know bush isnt the quickest when it comes to speaking etc... He takes time to gather his thoughts...

                                      There were quite a few time when Bush would say, actually this is the way it is.... but, kerry is a better debater.. speaker.. so naturally he sounded better..

                                                      Well... considering even the US govt can't actually get an even rough figure - which seems to range from 120 to 240, depending on which report you look at - I would not quibble too much on any figure :-)
