I also have and enjoy most of Zappa's music...although he was sometimes more geared towards gimic/experimental oriented ideas than ideas purely musically inclined (remember the early "Suzy Cream Cheese" with the Mothers of Invention?), nonethless, I think his reputation and legend as a guitarist will be lasting...
