I was against the war because I didn't believe all that horseshit of WMD, attacks in 15 minutes, un-maned planes and all other hollywood type sci-fi attributed to Iraq.

Man what a thread.
I see it this way...
Action ---> REaction.
It started somewhere.
Bush is full of lies, However Saddam wasn't also a nice guy neither his two son's.
What was the reason to attack Iraq?
Weapons of mass distruction right?
Nothing has been found so far.
That the US invades Afghanistan is one thing, but Iraq?
The thing is as far as I know the 9/11 attackers where like 80% from Saudi Arabia, they where from the bin laden gang.
Ok get them.
Iraq is something I really don't get, you see when Laura Bush says it's a better world without Saddam, then Why didn't the US sent special forces and kidnapped Saddam somehow?
Noooo the US has to invade the whole fucking country.
Simply because of the oil.
China will be the country of the future, what leaves the US with no money only depts, so say whatever you wanna say but if Iraq gives Oil cheap to the US then they have some economy in the future.
If I would become the president from The Netherlands or so I would get my troops out of Iraq and would appologize to the Iraqi peoples in public or on TV.
It's a real real big mess now over there.
And once again Don't get me wrong, I do agree that Saddam is off the set for funding those terrorists in the Palestina to attack Israel. ( $10K) per suicide bomber) And a few more things, but still not this way tho ofcourse I'm happy he's been captured.
Ohw one more note, I don't say those US soldiers suck or so, they where sent there by their own governement. I really feel sorry for those guys. I hope every US soldier who still lives get out their in live, and also the same to all those innocent Iraqi peoples.

I'm not quite sure where to go with the situation in Iraq.
Basically we're there from illegal invasion and they don't want us there, but now the country is more upside down than it was before. If we leave it will fall into civil war - and we would be blamed for this.
I've heard officials talking about training an Iraq army or police force. That's going to cause even more problems, because once you train them and arm them, they're going to use that training and those weapons to blow up your convoys to get you out of their country.
Installing a representative government is difficult because of the different ethnic groups. Put that together knowing that we will only support a government that will agree to our terms and our terms only, and you have a puppet government that will have to surpress it's citizens the way Saddam did.Comment

I also don't know what to do will be the best there. The thing is, some peoples are living for their religion. It isn't like in Bosnai-Herzegovina where all the serbs killed those muslims. The middle east is really a different type of people. It's really in their blood to be so religious. They want to die for it.
Now the US is going to train thenm again?

So if the US didn't invade Iraq, there would be more deads? Were ? [/B]
Documented chemical attacks by the regime, from 1983 to 1988, resulted in some 30,000 Iraqi and Iranian deaths.
Human Rights Watch estimates that Saddam's 1987-1988 campaign of terror against the Kurds killed at least 50,000 and possibly as many as 100,000 Kurds. The largest was the attack on Halabja which resulted in approximately 5,000 deaths. over 2,000 Kurdish villages were destroyed during the campaign of terror.
From 1998-2003 400,000 Iraqi children under the age of five died of malnutrition and disease, preventively, but died because of the nature of the regime under which they are living.
Oppressive government policies have led to the internal displacement of 900,000 Iraqis, primarily Kurds who have fled to the north to escape Saddam Hussein's Arabization campaigns (which involve forcing Kurds to renounce their Kurdish identity or lose their property) and Marsh Arabs, who fled the government's campaign to dry up the southern marshes for agricultural use. More than 200,000 Iraqis continue to live as refugees in Iran.
Nearly 100,000 Kurds, Assyrians and Turkomans was expelled, during shorter time before 2002, by the regime, from the central-government-controlled Kirkuk and surrounding districts in the oil-rich region bordering the Kurdish controlled north.
Saddam has had approximately 40 of his own relatives murdered.
Millions of people have been left with permanent physical and psychological damage.

That's a bit misleading, isn't it? I'm sure the crowd was just "standing" around and a the Apache just "happened" to open up on them.Originally posted by Soul_Rebel
yes it's different
as it's different having an apache flying over the crowd and shooting. That's how a palestinian tv producer was killed two week in Iraq.
http://www.cbc.ca/story/world/nation...raq040912.html
There's a video taken by greek reporters who were standing just 5 feet from the man who got killed. It was a crowd of civilians and suddenly an Apache flew over them and started blindly shooting. Everyone started running desperately. Some iraqi family opened thier house door and let the greek reporters among others to enter so they'll avoid getting killed.
That's right.... this was during a fire fight in which US Marines were attacked. The Brandly was disabled and on fire, and the Marines had pulled back to a safer location. Meanwhile, a crowd of people had jumped on the Bradly and were taken it apart, taking ammo, radios, other gear, and jumping about like a band of idiots while fourteen Marines, heavily armed, some wounded, were a few hundred yards away.
Not sure how to explain this to the reporter involved, or the parents of the children, but when a mililtary tank catches fire after a fire fight it's not the best idea to be running up to it. It might be because children shouldn't be playing with the weapons that might be in there, or it might be because of the fact that it was on fire (or was on fire, which ever is the case).
This is why innocent people get hurt in a war zone. Instead of locking their doors and hiding in the basement when bullets are flying, the go running into it - children and all.Herschel Savage

I think we all agree Saddam was a bad guy. But using that as a reason or a justification for invasion after our first reasons fall flat (weapons of mass destruction) is wrong.Originally posted by Dirty Dane
Yes - and its been worser in Iraq before
At the time when Saddam was killing all these hundreds of thousands of people, we were on good terms with him so we were shaking his hand (see Rumsfield photo) in friendship.
We're there for strategic reasons: economic (oil) and to act as a buffer zone in the middle east. You can help protect Israel, you can keep an eye on those muslims and your assets (oil), you can slowly create a market there for more of your goods and services, and so on. You can't tell us that tons of companies don't stand to earn a lot of money being there...that's why there have been issues over contracts. Every company wants there paws on those big contracts. Nobody is there for the goodness of their hearts wanting to help those poor little Iraqi children. That's a kindergardnesque way of looking at things.
Countries behave similar to individuals. We often greedy, egotistical, acting in our own benefit without regard for others. That's what happening there right now. Big country strongarms little weak pathetic backward country because it can, the same way the bully steals the milk money from the geek instead of his buddy who has money but who's the same size as him.Comment

I'm pretty sure that those mass destruction or chemical weapons are somewhere.
Why? Because some countries allowed them enough time to hide it good enough, and a few gram of chemicals is not difficult to hide in such a big desert. Still today, they find new massacre graveyards on Balkan, so don't be surprised if suddenly some of those weapons turn up in Iraq. Do you really think that one of the worst motherfucker in history did destroy those weapons? I dont think so.Last edited by Dirty Dane; 09-30-2004, 11:36 AM.Comment
