Nobody should feel sorry for them.

These people were not caught by surprise that spammers could actually get into serious trouble.

They weighed risk vs. reward, and chose to move forward by their own choosing.

"The indictment also charges Kilbride and Schaffer with two counts of interstate transportation of obscene material using an interactive computer service, two counts of interstate transportation of obscene material for the purpose of sale or distribution..." WTF? Jesus Christ that's insane.

Of course... Atheists don't mind if their children open up emails with images of men being fucking other men up the ass. They love that shit.

                      third paragraph:

Schaffer is also charged with one count of operating three pornographic Internet websites without including required statements describing the location of identification and other records for the performers portrayed in the websites, as is required by federal law.

of course spammers can have a very negative effect on the porn industry. I know many people who think that the porn industry is pretty revolting. Why? Because every day they get about 50 plus emails with the same subjects like:mum rapes son, dad fuck his daughter and so on...There is a particular spammer who is flooding many mail boxes with this material and I personally would be delighted if he rots in jail.

Agreed. Its one thing to have people seek our content/services its totally another to shove it down their throats unannounced and unwanted. It gives our industry a very bad reputation and really is a pretty unethical way to make a buck IMHO.

Also regarding some of the other comments, Im getting a ton of kiddy porn, incest, rape etc spam of late as Im sure our relatives/friends/etc are as well. Its tough telling people what you do when the first sentance out of their mouths is "are you sending all that fucked up email im getting?".

Spammers who dont comply with what are very resonable requirements from the gov deserve what they get. You mess with the bull..... etc.

what if your child all of a sudden got inundated with porn email? The one thing about spam is.. you can't control what people send you, and thats why its bad for our industry. If someone is mailing out millions of spam, its certainly going to get to people who don't want it. If people are mailing responsibly, qualified lists and have a real pre-existing relationship with those they are mailing, its a different story. A few bad apples spoil the dozen...

Also, the corporations who run the servers for mail, it costs them money, why do you think its AOL and MSFT attacking everyone? It is annoying, I hit the delete key, but unresponsible SPAM is a liability of our industry. The people who benefit.. are the ones who send it. To everyone else, it just deals damange to our industry as a whole.
