A lot of you know these people. I can't believe the charges they're piling on here. If you rape and beat someone you get 6 months probation and 12 months mandatory counseling, send out some UCE and you're looking at jail 4 life.

Notice that they also hit him with 2257 and obscenity charges just to top things off.

According to the indictment, the spam e-mails were sent in a manner that would impair the ability of recipients, Internet service providers processing the e-mails on behalf of recipients, and law enforcement agencies to identify, locate, or respond to the senders. This deception was accomplished in a number of ways, including the following: sending the spam e-mails from Internet Protocol addresses registered in the Netherlands and domain names registered in Mauritius; falsifying the ?From:? line in the e-mails; installing the computers sending the e-mails and related equipment in the Netherlands; and remotely controlling these computers from the United States. The indictment further alleges that Kilbride and Schaffer also created and utilized overseas companies named The Compliance Company and Ganymede Marketing to conceal and disguise their activities. According to the indictment, Kilbride and Schaffer also utilized overseas bank accounts in Mauritius and the Isle of Man for the purpose of laundering and distributing the proceeds of the spamming operation.

This is more proof that moving outside the US will not help you...

in all my years being on the net I never understood why ppl got so annoyed with spam. In on email account of mine I get about 50 per day... It takes me less then 5 seconds to delete them. And most of that time it is me scanning over them quickly to make sure nothing is being lost..

ppl who complain about spam need to get a life, or at least learn how to use the internet better....

After reading the entire thing, they were not convicted yet, 20 yrs is the max they COULD get.

Anyways they chose to do this. They did not get busted for sending bulk email, they got busted for not following the can-spam act which is very simple to comply with. You can bulk email, just let people unsubscribe and put in a real subject.

thats why we should be avoiding things like what they were doing. complying with the can spam act would have been a start for them. If you try to get over, you cant be mad when you get busted for it. Its like gambling, if you toss that 100$ bill down, you cant be mad if the dealer takes it.

Okay, where did you come up with the "run for governor" scenario, and why do you think prosecution for violation of the CAN-SPAM Act has anything to do with Christians?

As far as adding the 2257 charge, you have obviously never been arrested. They always pile on charges. It gives them room to bargain with the plea agreement.

Absolutely! I worked at a large post office for 5 years. You would not believe how many of those get mailed EVERY DAY. Not to mention the ones that are addressed to non-existant people & are un-deliverable, which get thrown in the dumpster every day. I'm talking dumpsters full, daily. It's sick. These are things that people have to acutally take the time to throw away (rather than simply filtering or pressing delete) plus they're filling up the landfills.

Did you read what I said? That table shows Average Years Served by Released Inmates . . . . only those that were released, and it groups muder with manslaughter, which is hardly the same thing.

I wonder how many of those released were actually convicted of murder as opposed to manslaughter.
