I have no idea how many clicks my sig actually gets, but I'm guessing I wouldn't get paid if somebody wasn't making money on it. Do sigs actually get new webmasters, or are they just to show who's program's dick is bigger?

depends on who you are, what your promoting, how many posts....
way too many factors to make a general question out of it
i have a sig I fly on a mainstream board that gets about 50 referrals to my dj site a day, but here it ain't so muchComment

It all depends on what the goal for the sig is ultimately.
Some buy sigs to get traffic, some buy sigs to get exposure, some buy sigs for branding purposes.
To many variables to give a definitive answer to a question like this without knowing at least some of the variables in play to start with
