Customer charges back 9 months later...

    Signed up 14th December 2003
Cancelled first month, single charge only
Charged back 27th September 2003 (today... 9 months later)

I think this is a personal record so far, how the hell can a bank allow a customer 9+ months to decide that a transaction is fraudulent? Even people who have statements issued quarterly will receive at least 2-3 of them over that period.

Because the banks and the CC companies are trying their best to put you out of business.

But wait until they get the impact on their income.

I'll give the benefit of the doubt that he's had a brain fart and meant to say 2004.

              Still, the question remains.

What's the statute of limitation on chargebacks?
SIG TOO BIG! Maximum 120x60 button and no more than 3 text lines of DEFAULT SIZE and COLOR. Unless your sig is for a GFY top banner sponsor, then you may use a 624x80 instead of a 120x60.

LOL, yes I meant the chargeback was 2004... unless time goes backwards and you can charge back before the initial transaction.

uno - I would have thought there would be some absolute limit. 9 months is plenty of time to read your statement and/or notice your card is missing.

According to VISA regs, it's 180 days, but I'm sure there's a loophole in there somewhere that allows it to happen at anytime part 180 days... Visa

Too bad our timeline to dispute the chargeback is much, much shorter than 9 freaking months!!!

I've lost soooooo many chargebacks due to them "not receiving the fax in time" or "not having my terms and conditions on each of my ordering pages"!

How much was the chargeback for? If it was the first month, single charge it must have been for under $50. Why are you sweating it? Is it the principle of the matter? Just curious.

Yeah, it's principle. It's only a single $19.95 charge so it's not going to send me broke, or push my chargeback levels up much.

I presume you have your own merchant account so you have the option of disputing a chargeback? Too bad the third party companies don't liase with their clients to allow them to do the same...

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's 180 days as well & I don't believe there's any way of getting around that. I'd suggest asking your processor about it if possible. Could be an error.

Yep, I was always under the impression that it was 6 months or so.

I'm not even sure it was a Visa, all I can see from Verotel is that it's a "CC" transaction.

The card prefix is 4971... can anyone tell what brand it is from that?

                                I don't have a listing of Visa's first 4 digits but here's a good rule to remember.

-The first 4 digits are always from the same issuing bank. (An example, all Credit cards on the planet beginning with 4128 are Visa cards issued by citibank)

-All visa cards begin with a 4

-All MasterCards begin with a 5

-American Express begin with a 3.

I forget the exact terminology but there is a list available of those first 4 digits. Surely you can find it on google.
