I'm not a tattoo person.. but i think what you're doing is beautiful.
A small tasteful tatoo symbolizing an important person who touched your life in a positive way, should never become a regret.
Worst case scenario you can get it removed, but if it helps with your grieving even .01% then i encourage it.
I also agree with Baddog, i know if i met somebody and saw such a tatoo and heard this story, i would feel compassion and admire their creative way of remembering their loved one.Comment

I had HIM design it for me...... his name in a bed of Cherokee Roses (as I am more than half Cherokee Indian) and this is something that will always mean something to me, no matter what.
Go and have this done, BUT do as Mikey says here..... you will know when you see just the right one... I did, and I had several working on it, was going to have it done for his birthday, and then decided to make it most special, to allow him to design it.
