I assume there will be an official retirement bout between Hopkins and Jones, a rematch of their 1992(1993?) encounter. Two shot fighters who can't punch too hard. Sounds like a nice way to pad your bank account before calling it quits.Comment

He has lost a total of 3 times. Shithead. Sure, if he continues fighting after getting pulvarized time after time after time, sure. But he's lost twice in a row, fighters go through slumps and can make amazing comebacks.Originally posted by dig420

Unless it's blatantly obvious that he should quit and he's still able to compete at the top, there's nothing wrong with it, especially since it's his own life and he'll choose what he fucking wants to do.
There's probably a lot of things we can all do without that isn't exactly beneficial to our health but we do it anyways.Comment

What dig says, he should retire more for his health. A few years ago he was a great commentator for HBO, now he can't even talk straight. It's slourish.Comment

when's the last time a top level fighter got KTFO twice in a row and made an 'amazing comeback'? NEVER. He can't fight at the level he used to fight at. He'll be reduced to taking beatings against journeymen and in 5 years he'll be a shambling, mumbling shell of a man. That's why they have athletic commissions, to stop shit like that from happening although they don't since they're all corrupt.Originally posted by galleryseek

Not only JOnes lost but he was dominated.. Jones doesnt have the speed and the reflexes he once had .. its over... He can only embarrass himself more by continuing...Comment

Listen you cocky ignorant fuck, regardless of the fact that he happened to lose 2 fights in a row amongst an amazing career as a boxer doesn't necessarily mean he cannot fight again. A lot of people doubted foreman in the 90's, they bit their tongue.
Who says he has to be the best, even so that he's past his prime, if he wants to box, let him box. He doesn't need cock sucker fans telling him what to do with his life.Last edited by galleryseek; 09-25-2004, 09:47 PM.Comment

Foreman was never shot. He lost against Ali, beat Ron Lyle in a slugfest then lost to light-hitting Jimmy Ellis. It was a mental thing with him, not a physical thing like it is with RJJ. You're the kind of guy who goes to a fight and starts booing if the fighters dare to box instead of slug like amateurs.
If the commissions would have done their job and stopped Ali from fighting Holmes he'd probably still be giving speeches right now instead of eating crayons.
I'm not Ali, but it's hard not to look wise posting against an ignorant fool such as yourself.Comment

His fight with De La Hoya was surprisingly close until the KO. A younger Hopkins would have floored him in a couple of rounds. You could clearly see that he was nearing 40 that night. Calling him shot is a bit of a stretch, but he's not the man he used to be. And since Roy Jones is a more imposing man physically -- though he IS shot -- it could be an interesting rematch.Originally posted by dig420

Foreman lost a decision to Jimmy Young in 1977, not Ellis. He then saw Jesus in his dressing room and retired for a decade.Originally posted by dig420

After losing to Ali and beating Lyle, he also beat a guy by the name of Joe Frazier in 5 short rounds. Not quite the brutal beating he gave him to win the title a few years earlier, but it clearly showed that he still had gas left in the tank. Foreman's problem was fighting ourdoors under 100 degree heat and high humidity. If you could avoid his bombs for 6-7 rounds, he'd be a sitting duck. He wasn't quite as powerful during his comeback, but he was a much smarter fighter.
