Maybe it doesn't but it's convenient. I didn't have to watch any shows today and I'll just catch them tomorrow whenever I feel like it.

I gave digital cable and TimeWarners DVR service a try (while keeping satellite and tivo). It's not that good. It's better than a VCR but still not that good. And the video on demand is just a bunch of hype. Tivo is much better and easier to use....Comment

i installed a FTP, web and telnet server on mine.. I can control it from the web, I can undelete shows, copy them to my PC.. fucking kicks assComment

Actually since I got tivo, I watch more TV shows, but it takes me much less tmie to do so.
You dont realise how much time commercials take up until you reduce them to 1 minute total per show.
It's great!
