Not to sound racist, this is sad, but true. Generally, the areas that are unsafe, and have higher crime rates, are the poorer areas where the majority of people are black. If you live in a "white" area, things are fairly safe. You'll find it's like that nearly everywhere in South Africa over the last 8 years or so. I used to live in Johannesburg. Similar kind of thing over there.
