depends on your gps. all it needs is a timed waypoint saving feature at a specified interval and then you use a mapping software to plot your points on a street map so you can see where the car has been.
read the manual to setup seconds between waypoint saving, etc. not all gps do this but the majority do that have been manufactured recently---you will need the lon/lat points to plot them on a street map using street map software.
the gps must be turned on while the car is in motion, and programmed to save the waypoints at a specified interval---then it just a matter of opening the folder and the waypoints (lon/lat fixes) will be plotted on a street map.
delorme.com is one of the most popular vendors for this, and they also can merge the data from popular gps (garmin, magellen, lowrance, etc) they also sell GPS and have a good setup for street navigation using a laptop. good for outside sales crew, etc.
