Would be better at 48hrs. That's enough to get promos going for peeps that aren't active. By the time they get your announcement, they will have already lost a few hours, maybe even the full 24hrs... plus it's the weekend.

Surprise announcements with a 24hr deadline could turn out to be worthless.
