              Black Ice, a good hex editor and a decent packet sniffer is pretty much all you'll need to get started. If you need anything more than that, you're already at a very advanced level.

                  Its been awhile since I've dorked around with that, but I think Numega Softice is still the gold standard. If you don't have an assembly background, don't even bother.

                                      There aren't in turn-key utilities for cracking software. Its very difficult and time-consuming even for somebody that knows what they're doing.
