    Opinions Wanted: ANIME, just Cartoons or Revolutionary Art?

    The Japanese have bred a singularity. What else is new!

    Each time I see the images that they conceive, I wonder just what HAPPENED over there.

    The violence, the restlessness, the fevered overturning of taboo -- were they just RUINED by the bombs we dropped on them , or is there, on that buzzing little "island" called Japan, a fore-glimpse (for the rest of us) of just what isolated social homogeneity is REALLY like?

    So many of them, crammed so close together...

      It depends, not all animes are revolutionary, it can be masterpieces like CowBoy Bebop or dumbshits like Pokemon/Digimon/blablabla. Its like USA cartoons, they are unique toons and stupid cartoons..

          Without a doubt, the Japanese culture is unique. They're all alone in who they are and what they do. Proximity to other "Asian" countries, physical resemblance and common language fundamentals notwithstanding, Japan is like NOWHERE else.

          In Anime, I see, perhaps, the most representative expression of how the modern Japanese differ from the rest of us. The power of animation (of "cartoons") is nothing less than the power to actualize the fruits of our imagination -- completely unrestrained by the limitations of practical possibility. When we make animated films, we play God.

          I'm interested in considering what the Japanese have done with this power, and how it differs from what anybody else has done.

                              Do you need to ask?

                              Did you all forget what happened to these people? In the mid 1940's their culture was riped from them after we dropped 2 atomic bombs on their citizens. Then, they were told by the man that had ravaged their culture that they were to give up CENTURIES of culture and become good little American clones.

                              And you wonder where the anger and confusion comes from?
                              These are first and second generation atomic bomb survivors.

                              You guys really should have paid closer attention in school.
                              Lessons to be learned. And remember this, after we conquered them, there was no terrorism, was there?
                              They adopted our ways, and came and kicked our asses with our own methods.
