So, what's the answer? Impose "objective" merit standards as barriers to their participation?
Sadly, Ubermensch, we cannot CLEANSE society of those we don't like, or who offend us, or who feel like parasites on the healthy, vigorous flesh of our GRAND IDEAS.
There will always be more of them than us.
Use your intelligence and charisma to CONVERT and ENLIGHTEN the masses.
A briliant man living alone in the wilderness is no use to anybody.

As for converting and enlightening the masses, it's impossible. The majority of people are too stupid to understand even the simplest of concepts. There is no reason to waste time on them.
The brilliant man living alone in the wilderness probably does not care about being of use to anybody but himself. He follows his own ratio and morals, and refuses to be corrupted by the ignorance of the masses... there is no reason to be of use to them, simply because they do not matter./(bb|[^b]{2})/Comment

I understand how you feel -- BELIEVE me.
So, what's your goal in life? To make yourself free from the "corrupting" influences of the ignorant masses and achieve merely a private, unchallenged GREATNESS? Or do you want to CONTRIBUTE something?

If you support Bush and the bible, that's your choice, but shouting about it whenever you can and avoiding most arguments does not make for interesting reading.
Now, the same can be said for what most people post, but since you've shown that you actually do have capacities, seeing you act like an idiot is rather painful to watch./(bb|[^b]{2})/Comment

I've never back down from a good argument. If I missed one, it's probably because I was offline and didn't see it. The reason I am so 'vocal' in my posts is because I hold minority views and get slammed every time I try to express them. How would you feel if the things you believed in were mocked and ridiculed 50 times a day on GFY?Originally posted by punkworld

No need for a single, big goal in life. Doing the things one likes, creating the things one thinks need creating should be more than enough.Originally posted by 2HousePlague

Ofcourse, I want to contribute something. But not to the world of the masses... just to my own world. Greatness is a word that is meaningless in such a context, since it contains a comparison./(bb|[^b]{2})/Comment

Ironic: We're back to Ayn Rand, all over again.

Well, not really. Rand makes the mistake of believing that rationality is objective, and that work is objectively good. Even worse, she actually believes that her views will lead to the greatest "progress" for the whole of humanity. Simply put, Rand is essentially optimistic about humanity - an unforgivable mistake.Originally posted by 2HousePlague

My view has some elements of Rand, but it also includes elements of Nietzsche, existentialism and some phenomenological thinkers, as well as parts of contemporary philosophy./(bb|[^b]{2})/Comment
