    Google is on our side? Bans Christian group for "hate speech"

    "You will not allow ads that lead to websites advocating against homosexuality, but typing 'a-- f---ing sex' in Google leads to sidebar ads for 'awesome anal videos,' et al. The incredible double standard displayed by you and the left in general is at the root of the rot in this country. Of course, the right to free speech protects [anal sex], but not the belief that homosexuality is a sin. That is truly amazing, don't you agree?"

                  Banning opinions is rather weak. What makes the internet so great is that everyone has a voice. You can shout anything you want at the world. Every person with either wacky or conventional ideas, generic or unusual tastes, can express his thoughts freely, and even meet like-minded people. When a quasi-monopoly like Google decides to play the thought-police, essentially deciding what is appropriate or not, it somehow takes away that unique flavor from the internet, creating an environment where one feels the need to conform in order to be approved by the powers that be.

                      Even though I don't agree with the Christians, I don't think Google should ban people for hate speech. However, there might have been a legal reason why Google banned it. Maybe their lawyers informed them that they could be held accountable for profiting from the distribution of hate material?

                          Maybe there are gay people on staff who are just tired of getting bashed every single day, and decide that enough is enough.
                          Its no different than banning any other kind of hate site.

                          You can have all the free speech you want, just not with googles traffic.

                                  But what is hate? I know people whose families were slaughtered by Communist Partisans. To them (and to me as well), Communism is the ultimate form of hatred. Should we ban every pro-Communist, pro-egalitarian, pro-Marxist site from the internet?

                                  What about pro-Palestinian sites? Jewish people are probably offended by some of them. But wait a minute, what about pro-Zionist sites? Palestinian people are surely offended by them.

                                  You see where that leads us? If we start censoring each other, it'll never stop. There will be virtually nothing left on the web. So I say let the homos promote themselves, and let the bashers bash. Just don't threaten or libel each other.

                                      And this is meant to be an arguement FOR banning the ads? Hell, I am not even a Christian, but it seems that you are forcing your opinions on to others at the same time - by wishing to censor theirs. Google is a private company, so I guess they can do what they want, and so long as they don't censor their free results I guess that is fine, but in reality if they don't like homosexuality they should be able to voice that opinion.

                                                      In many countries, hate speech is a crime. So I could see Google not wanting to leave themselves vulnerable to any legal problems because of this.

                                                                  While I agree censorship by anyone anytime is always wrong, your examples are a little strange.... If you hate communists because that political group slaughtered your family, fair enough. You are justified in wanting to express your anger. If you hate Palestinians because they blew up the bus your grandma was riding, fair enough. You are justified in wanting to express your anger. If you hate Israelis because they gunned down your father and bulldozed your house, fair enough. You are justified in wanting to express your anger. But what exactly did homosexuals do? Who did they declare war on? How many people did they kill? Bashing on people for their sexual preference is just baseless bigotry, not a justifiable political position as the previous examples were.

                                                                      As a company, they can turn down anyone they want.

                                                                      But if they still list them in their search engine, I don't see this as censorship.
