Okay, I think what is happening in New Orleans is a prime example of racial tension in the United States. As soon as shit hit the fan, all the poor black people began controlling things. They began looting and shooting and all that good stuff. Now, sure, its nice to get 30 free pairs of Nike shoes, and a new barbeque for three low payments of $0.00. However, when you look at the population of NO, something like 60% are blacks, and I'm willing to bet most of them are dirt poor. What they're doing now is simply getting control of things for once in their lives. They've felt powerless and helpless their entire lives, and now they are essentially in control of one of the best party cities in the US.
And lemme tell you something, when I was in North Carolina, I could have cut the racial tension with a knife. Every place I went that would be considered minimum wage job territory was dominated by black people working the counters. Despite their low-pay jobs, they were very friendly. Even more friendly then the places with white people working the counter. Now, I'm no expert, but you'd think they'd have some pent up anger, with the working minimum wage jobs, living in the crappy neighborhoods etc. Not only do they not make much money (huge generalization, I know), they have to put up with racism. From my understanding, black people are treated worse by customers than white people are. So they get paid less, to be treated worse, to go home to their small house in the seedy part of town, while putting up with racist people.
As far as I'm concerned, they should start taking over the rest of the southern US. New Orleans is only the beginning. They've had their first taste of power since being brought over as slaves, and they like it. They now know what its like to walk in the rich white mans shoes, and they'll be damned if they're gonna give it up without a fight.
